Our Passion

Ballo Italian, a 16,000 square foot masterpiece within Mohegan Sun, is a work of passion for John J. Tunney III, a restaurant maverick who is best known for his high-profile, always-packed creations in New York, Connecticut, Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

BALLO brings Tunney’s passion to the Italian experience with intense design combinations, exceptional service and a fresh, authentic menu of Italian favorites and new creations. BALLO, which means dance in Italian, is inspired by San Galgano – a Gothic abbey built in the 12th century and located in the hills of Tuscany.

"San Galgano represents all that is spectacular about Italy - the history, the passion, the fortitude of the country. What better place to worship the food of Italy than in a place that replicates their mastery?" says Tunney.

The cathedral-like rooms feature authentic Italian fixtures, exotic fabrics and dramatic lighting with one of largest Carrara Marble bars ever built as the centerpiece.

The culinary team is led by Executive Chef Shaun Golan who executes the creative and inspiring menu. Both Tunney and Golan’s commitment to fresh and locally grown foods only adds to what truly makes the dishes inspiring.

Ballo is a 3 Star Certified Green Restaurant, having earned 186.71 points and completed 44 steps. Ballo is the first and only Certified Green Restaurant located in a casino east of the Mississippi.
